RM>> There wasn't anything wrong with it, I was just used to the old >> show's characters and you can be slow to accept a remake. MP>As you've watched both, how true to the original series is the current one? As mentioned elsewhere, possibly the new show is a little more complex and more blood graphic at times, but most of those shows are more about the relationships between charaters than what they are doing.. MP>On our PBS affiliate network, they ran a show during their fundraisers that >touched on some differences between the current series vs. the book, but I >was curious about the original series. For some reason, I got the >impression it might have been more of a comedy than the current one. I think the original did have a little more comedy in it. It's a while since I saw it but my recall is that Tristan was a lot more of a goofball on the old show. The original James Harriot struck me as slightly more 'likeable' and, although his current wife is not too bad, I liked the original lady a little more. One popular Canadian show is Murdoch Mysteries. Maybe you've run across it as it's apparently very popular in the USA. It is an old time Police show set in Toronto around 1924. It's pretty good most of the time, if a little unrealistic about some things. Semi-comedy. But, I found books by the original author that the TV series was based on, and there were major differences between the some of the characters in the books compared to on the TV show..
