That is what my mother tells me :-P

That is probably because you don't encounter much friction with the people you
run into. Everybody is nice when there is no conflict of interests.

Problems come when you are forced to exist within a tight society. Say you are
in a homeowners council because you live in a condo and they are going to
approve some budgeting for repairing the building. Problem starts there because
somebody wants his cousin to be hired for the repairs, somebody wants to take
advantage of the fact repairs are being done to repaint the facade in pink with
yellow spots, and btw let's aprove a motion to have the neighbor of the 1st-C
remove his courtains now he is not here to defend himself.

At that point you get people manipulating other people and then they smile at
you while they try to fuck you as hard as they can because one time you
mentioned a pink facade with yellow spots didn't suit a 18th century building
classified as Historical.
