Last of the Summer Wine was called the "longest-running British Comedy"
when it was still being filmed.  It started as a one-off episode of another
show, in the early 1970s.  That pilot did well so they made a series out of
it.  It ran until sometime in the 2010's.  One of my all time favorites.  ;)

IIRC, the show it spun-off of was the same one that spun-off Are You Being
Served.

Aside from what we would call "soaps," most of them don't run near as long as
either of those two.  ;)
