Actually, Christianity (when taking the Bible as it's authority at
least) DOES presume man to be quite immoral and evil from the onset. There is
much scriptural language that depicts the human condition in terms of
hopeless decrepitness. The "fear" of God, rather the fear of eternal
damnation, is intended as ONE means that is used to elicit a response of
humility and the seeking of salvation.
So, from that point of view, no. A person can't be "moral" in the first
place, as it is, presumably, only God that imparts value and forgiveness (not
for what we have done so much as for what we "are"
