-=> Sean Rima wrote to Mike Powell <=- SR> IS OS/2 still updated ? Yes, by a third-party company. It's called ArcaOS which Andrew, Kevin, and I run for our BBSes (or in Andrew's case, one of his BBSes). This company has really been working hard to bring OS/2 into the modern age. It's not cheap but it's worth it since they have ported a LOT of Linux stuff over into ArcaOS which really extends its functionality. ArcaOS is still 32-bit. The company, Arca Noae, have said in order for them to make it 64-bit, IBM would have to talk to Microsoft about licensing the kernel code for that and from what they've been told, MS won't do it. People forget that the modern versions of Windows owe a lot to OS/2. If it wasnt for OS/2, we'd still be at Windows ME v20. |
