dumb question, but what does being plugged or unplugged have ANYTHING to do
with the sheet music they're playing????  If you're referring to the songs on
their unplugged album vs. their studio versions, then you don't know nirvana
very well.  I have like 4 of their imports and all their domestic albums, and
every verison of every song is played differently... they're good at
improvising, problem is, on most of the imports, which are bootlegs, I think
they're more like mistakes than changes.
