A well defined low pressure area over the Central U.S. continues
to advance eastward this morning. Ahead of the trailing cold front,
showers and thunderstorms capable of scattered heavy rainfall and
some severe weather will spread eastward into the Middle and Lower
Mississippi Valley, while a steady rain falls over the Northern
Plains and Upper Midwest today. By Thursday, the front will reach
the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, ending the recent stretch of dry
weather in the region.

Meanwhile, persistent easterly onshore flow south of a
large high pressure cell will maintain the threat of heavy rainfall
for at least another day over southeast Florida. Additional
rainfall could exacerbate problems from the impactful flooding
that occurred yesterday, and Flood Watches remain in effect for
the area.

In the West, an approaching Pacific frontal system will usher in
modest rainfall to North-Central California today. The upper-low
associated with this system could eventually lead to some mountain
snowfall tomorrow and Thursday over the Central Rockies. Cooler
than average temperatures will linger over portions of the High
Plains and West this week. In contrast, unseasonably mild weather
will prevail for much of the East this week as the trailing cold
front modifies over the next few days.
